Visiting Faculty

Tiberiu Popa (Spring 2009)
Tiberiu Popa received his PhD from the University of Pittsburgh in 2005, and his MA and BA from the University of Bucharest. He taught classical literature at the University of Bucharest for one year before coming to the US. Currently he is a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Butler University in Indianapolis.
Dr. Popa's main field of interest is ancient philosophy and science, although he has also taught a number of courses on other philosophical periods and areas at Butler University. Besides, his interest in classical literature and civilization is about as keen today as it was when he was still studying in Europe (Bucharest, Amsterdam and Budapest) and then at Pitt.
His publications tackle both philosophical and literary topics. Most recently he has contributed two chapters for the Humanitas Companion to Plato (in Romanian) and is currently working, among other things, on an extensive study of Aristotle's and other ancient philosophers' treatments of the concept of law of nature.
